I have a 50 hp outboard on my 26x it seems to have to work hard to get on plane. I think a fin attached to the cavitation plate may help with quicker planning and less power required under way. Has anyone installed one? and was there a noticeable difference?.

Not on a Mac, but on a runabout I added one. It was a 16.5 foot Larson with a 115 Evinrude and it helped get out of the hole, but it caused cavitation in tight turns. I guess there's tradeoffs in everything. I put spacers between the cavitation plate and the fin (which was supposed to help, but it didn't.) I understand if the motor were mounted lower to keep the cavitation plate lower the problem would have been gone. I ended up removing the fin.

Having said all that I'd suggest continue looking for someone with Mac 26 experience with this.
