I did a search and could not find anyone who had added an additional cockpit locker hatch to the port side on the 81 model Hunter 25. There is a large area forward of the rear hatch and behind the quarter berth that cannot be accessed. Looks like it could be perfect storage for jib sails. Anyone even thought of this and is there a reason not to open this area up to use?

I have a similar situation

Kenny, I will be interested to sse how this project works out. I have a 1982 H30, and I have been planning a similar project for my port cockpit locker, which is above the quarter-berth. My quarter-berth is never used for sleeping, and therefore has become the catch-all for whatever will not fit elsewhere in the cabin. My thought was to cut out the bottom of the locker, put in a false bottom, and put shelves, or other storage area in the quarter-berth. The false bottom would make this area accessible from the cockpit. My only concern would be that cutting a hole in the bottom of the locker may or may not compromise the structural integrity of the cockpit. I don't think so, but I could be wrong. The starboard cockpit locker is open to the engine compartment and the lazarette. I'll keep watching to see what advice you get.
