I currently have a 35# Fluke Anchor; sail mostly in the Chesapeake Bay, and find this anchor to be satisfactory. But am planning trips south to Florida, Bahamas etc and am looking to add an anchor. What would you recommend. Boat is 42', 25,000 displacement, sail. Thanks

SaraV, You will be coming into our part of the world, where we have mostly reasonably good holding sand bottoms. What is your intended use of the anchor? A primary or a secondary off the bow? A lunch hook off the stern for a quick stop and/or to help keep the boat from swinging? Or a back up storm anchor that you will stow below deck?

Thanks for the Question

Looking for a primary anchor off of the bow. If you recommend a different anchor then the one that I have, I would look to use my presnt anchor as a secondary and/or storm anchor. If what I have is satisfactory, then I would be looking for a secondary anchor to add holding power in a blow. Thanks

SaraV, if your fluke anchor is the 35 lb. Danforth Hi-Tensile model, then it should give you satisfactory results in our sand bottoms here in Florida and the Bahamas. This anchor is rated by the manufacturer for boats up to 45', so I think that it is fine as a primary anchor. You may want to consider using the Fortress FX-37 as a secondary anchor. It is a manageable 21 lbs. and is designed for boats up to 51'. The FX-37 is a well battle-tested storm anchor for boats in your size range.
