Adding Wood to the Cabin Sole

The O'Day 28 that I just purchased has a fiberglass cabin sole that is in excellent shape. However, I would like to have change this to a wood sole.Can anyone suggest how best to do this? I recall reading in the archives that the wood sole is simply bonded to the fiberglass. Someone else mentionned he would consider using velcro to hold it to the fiberglass sole. Any comments on the best way to do this?Claude

Have you considered carpet?

If you want to velcro, I would recommend the velcro adhesive strips. A large patch in each corner would suffice and perhaps a non-skid pad like under hall rug runners.I also have a fiberglass sole. I saw a Westsail once with white berber carpet, liked the idea and bought a piece of scrap from the rug dealer for $10 or $20 and did the same. It does get dirty, but I take it out at the begining of the year, hose it off and throw it over the boom to dry. It would be easy and cheap to replce if I wanted to put a new piece in and have it look new. I didin't go all out and bind the edges, but that could be done.Just another idea,,Tor

Teak and Holley

Claude, The factory sole was made from Teak and Holley ply and then screwed into the fiberglass floor with teak plugs to cover the screw holes.You might want to find another boat with a teak and holley sole to see how they did the inspection ports. PM
