Hi Gang, I'm hoping someone has been there and done that and can offer some help. I recently purchased an Assym Spinaker for my 98 Hunter 240 and would like to either get a Spinaker halyard rigged before the sailing season starts -or hear from someone who uses the Jib Halyard to fly the Assym. Question 1. How do I go about adding a Spinaker halyard? Cutting into the mast is probably not something I want to tackle myself. Question 2. I have a roller furler on the jib so my Jib halyard is free, how well does it work flying an assym from the jib halyard?. I am planning to use a sock with the assym. Any other equipment I'll need from West marine? How is yours rigged? Thanks. Ken

Assym Spinaker

Ken On my 95 Hunter 26 I use the Jib halyard and it works fine. I also have a sock and can't think of anything else you need.

Using the jib halyard

will require you to tack rather than jibe to come about. The head of the spinnaker will be below the headstay, so you would need to tack the spinnaker like a jib. If you mount a block above the headstay, then you will let the clew fly out front and re-sheet on the other side. I just added a block about 1 foot above the headstay on my H23.5. I added a turning block for the sheets fastend to the aft cleats, then sheet them forward to the winch, and secured by a cam cleat.
