Adding / Replacing a Port to Cabin Top

Hi - I was thinking about replacing the current opening cabin-top deck port on my Catalina 30 with a larger port. I currently have a ~10x10 opening port on the cabin-top located about 1.5 ft aft to port of the stepped mast. If I were to open the current opening to accommodate a larger port (say 2x larger) - do you think I would compromise the integrity and strength of my cabin-top? I know the corners of the opening should be rounded to disperse stresses on the deck. I'm concerned about the mast compression stresses.

What about any wiring chases? Structural integrity?

I would give Catalina a call and get their opinion too.
