I'm wanting to run my reefing lines back to the cockpit in a 2 line jiffy reef approach, with one line for the luff and another for the leech of the mainsail. I'd did a similar project on my previous Catalina 25 and it worked great. On my H26, I have the standard deck organizer and rope clutches on the starboard side for the halyards, but nothing on the port side were I am planning to add a new deck organizer and rope clutch. The problem I'm faced with is how to secure the deck organizer without having cutting an access panel in the interior cabin liner. Any ideas on how to accomplish this without cutting the liner? Good chance...

that you have imbedded aluminum plates on the port side that you can drill and tap into to mount the hardware. If some 26 owners don't join in with the answer, don't be afraid to call Hunter direct and ask them. They are very helpful, especially if you have your hull # handy.

My H26

Mark, the previous owner of my 1994 H26 added a 2 line Spinloc rope clutch on the port side. I'm assuming it has an imbedded plate since no additional access covers have been added. He also also added another cam cleat on the port side and accessed it for a backing plate with an existing access plate in the head. BrianW

Stud Finder

Mark, A regular stud finder will show you if there is an aluminum plate in the fiberglass.

Thanks

Thanks to all. I knew there had to be a better way and will give her a go this weekend.

Jiffy Reef

Once you get this done, why not take pictures and post them on the knowledgebase? H26/260 owners who want to do this will thank you.

Magnetic stud finder on Alum?? Not

I haven't ever seen a magnetic stud finder that would react to an aluminum plate but good luck. You'd have to drill a small sample hole to be sure. I'd bet a cold one that you'll find a backing plate in there. Good luck, Michael

Stuf finders are not magnetic.

I think they're some sort of ultrasound. At any rate, I use my stud finder to find WOODEN studs in the walls. I've never tried it for aluminium in glass, but I've been eyballing that port pad on the cabin top.

What difference does it make though. If there is no plate there through bolt it and put a round deck plate on the overhead to cover the hole.
