I'm thinking about adding a few engine gauges to the pedestal on my H380, specifically ones for water temp and oil pressure (to complement the audible alarm). Has anyone added gauges and are the Yanmar engines able to be retrofitted with the gauges. From searching some old threads, it appears possible, but I'm curious as to the level of effort required to do this. The engine is a 3JH2E.

I'm also planning to relocate my fuel gauge from ankle level on the pedestal to a higher location, where the tach is located. Thanks in advance for advice on gauge brands and difficulty of work to accomplish.

I have added multiple gauges for everything when I rebuilt my engine. But I put them all down below. It was very easy. I used all the correct wire colors. You can purchase all this in the sending units at the local auto parts house. As far as the gauges go you will have to search out for marine gauges i

f you wanted to be on the outside. It is very nice to know every function of the engine. I'll try to send photos. Sometimes it's hard to my cell phone.

Rgtet,

Its not that difficult. Here is a link to how I did mine.

You can waterproof the gauges with a little silicone around the glass lenses and where they mount.

Spraygun,

That is quite a panel you made above the nav station. Very nice indeed. I see you still have those hinges on the nav station lids. I swapped mine out for some hidden hinges that you install in the edge of the lids. Makes the entire surface flat.

Thank You. Just in case there are any stickers out there. I did use ABYC standards on wiring. tinned wire with correct colors. I made a nice harness from the engine to the gauge panel.

I installed oil pressure and water temp gauges to my 1999 H380 last winter. It ended up being easier than expected as Yanmar already has the wires run in the harness. I wanted to leave the light/buzzer set up too so just had to add a second set of sending units. There is an extra threaded hole in the thermostat housing (just remove plug) and there is a manifold for oil sending units with two extra holes. Locating the other ends of the wires inside the pedestal was fairly simple as they're color coded. Wired the new instrument lights into the power to the light in the compass which is off the nab light breaker. Whole system works great.
