adding gauges to Yanmar alarms

My Yanmar engine came with warning buzzers to alert me if there is a problem with temperature or oil pressure.Has anyone added gauges? If so, where did you install the new sending units and where did you purchase this stuff? thoughts on mounting the gauges?I would rather know there is a potential problem, than wait to find the engine overheated, etc.

Don't remove your buzzers !!!!!

Debra:Adding gauges is an excellent idea. There are a couple of minor problems. The new senders that you will be able to purchase have SAE (tapered) threads. The Yanmar engines have BPT (non-tapered) threads. What you need to figure out is how to 'tee' into the system and have both types of senders in the system.I would check with a GOOD mechanic about doing the mechanical part of this process. Once the engine block has been tapped for SAE the installation should not be too bad. The fellow that I spoke with said that one of the senders was very small (1/8") and should be run off a hose and mounted to a bulkhead.You can purchase just about any brand of gauges. You can cover them with a plexiglass cover to keep the moisture off of them.

T-sending units

I've seen photo in this forum where they T the two sending units at the original buzzer sending unit. I will be trying to do this during winter lay up ,whats st.pete like would love helpful info for relocating to west coast florida some where between tampa and ft myers how's the sailing in st.pete. nick

I installed new senders and gauges

for both the oil and temp and made new engine panel. The parts are Yanmar parts and fit perfectly in the exisitng holes. I would not use "T's based on advice I received that you will not get a true reading if you do so. I will post the exact parts and a photo of the new panel after I take a picture this weekend. With these parts you do not have to tap any SAE fitting and take the chance of ruining the existing threads. They look and work great and I have no regrets.
