I just bought a '72 Catalina 22 for $1000. It has no power what so ever. Any thoughts as to where to begin? Battery location? Panel location? Grounding? Thanks for any and all help! -tap

What a steal!

Good on ya, tap! I'm no electrical wizard but I don't think you could go wrong with Nigel Calder's "Boatowner's Mechanical & Electrical Manual" (which is sold in the Catalina Owners store). I suppose the first step would be to determine what your needs are - do you really need seventeen lights or will two suffice? Do you need shorepower? Do you want AC power? Inverter? Radio? From there I would think you'd be able to determine how many volts or amps or watts (told you I ain't no 'lectric wiz!) you'll be using which would, in turn, determine the size & how many batteries you'll need. Maybe you should just buy that book and stop listening to me!!! :) Congrats on the new boat anyway! LaDonna

wiring question

http://www.spiritone.com/~mack/c22/...... go to this website and click on brochures and manuals. It will give you a complete wiring diagram for a 77. You could always call Catalina and see if a 72 included the wiring (my guess is yes)...... but if not........ you could always buy the wiring and a fuse box from Catalina Direct. Should be a relatively easy wiring job if you are the least bit handy. Hope this helps..... feel free to contact me off list if you have additional questions. I have a 77 model. Good luck!!

My '72 had full wiring...

I have a 1972 C22 and it had full wiring already installed. The only tricky business was the wiring for the masthead lights. These were actually fiberglassed into the space between the cabin top and the cabin liner. There is a small dimple just infront of the mast step. You drill a small hole there and fish around for the wires. You can then install a through-deck fitting (e.g. from Perko) that will allow you to run a wire up the inside of the mast for a masthead light. Kev.
