Hi there
I have a 1995 Hunter 26. Presently it has a deck organizer and rope double clutch on the starboard side.
I want to add the same to the port side so I can bring the toping lift and reefing lines to the cockpit.
Hunter has moulded places on the deck to mount the hardware, but I have no access inside the cabin to fasten nuts on. It seems Hunter installs the deck hardware with bolts and nuts then installs a finished ceiling leaving an inch or so between the two to run wires etc.
My question is can I use stainless steel wood screws to secure the hardware to the deck, there seems to be about 1 1/2 inches of solid fibgerglass to screw to, as I don't really want to cut holes in the finished ceiling.
Thanks Ken

Please, do NOT use wood or sheet metal screws. I suspect that there is an aluminum plate molded into the glass at that point; just like on your starboard side. I believe the factory drilled just thru the plate and tapped for 1/4-20 or whatever the appropriate size is. Some owners have drilled thru the plate and used bolts/nuts.

I emailed Hunter and they got back to me in about 10 minutes. They said that there is 1/4 inch aluminum plate under the mounting blocks and to just drill and tap it for the bolt.

Be sure to used matched sets of drill & taps. You don't want to be using a 1/4" drill and then expect to tap it!
