What is the best, or smartest way to add cleats to an internal halyard mast?
None of our other boats had any internal ropes or halyards. I would think the main concern with using screws to attach the cleat is that the end of the screws could snag and ruin the internal ropes.
Are stainless rivits strong enough?
I think I would like to add two cleats to the mast and one to the boom.
Thanks for the input. I forgot about thread cutting screws. I have used them in another, unrelated project with aluminum, and they seem to work fine. Unlike self-tapping screws, I will have to drill a pilot hole, but they don't have that sharp, projecting point like a self-tapping screw. I only want to use these cleats for "parking" lines when not in use.
