Batteries
Hi Hal;Congrats, you have a great boat! We have a MKIII also, and here is how mine is set up. In the battery box under the starboard settee, I have a Group 27 Dual Purpose flooded in position #2 for a starting battery. Next to it in Position #1 is a Group 31 Flooded for the house bank (105AH) It is wired in parallal with another Group 31 Flooded that is on a platform right next to the water heater next under the rear berth. It is a relativly short run. My inverter (1000 Watts) is wired to that battery with a 250 amp fuse in the positive line. It inverter is mounted against the bulkhead right behind the steps to the cockpit, again a short run to the battery under the settee, which is wired to the other "house" battery. that is Positive to Positive and Negative to Negative. I used #2 Ancor tinned battery cable for both connections. When we need to use the inverter, a 3 ft cord power strip sits on the counter right next to the companionway and all connection are made to that power strip.to me, this is easier and safer than wiring it into the boats AC circuit. The only cost was the cables to the battery. The only thing I had to do to make a group 27 and 31 fit in the regular battery compartment is to cut the handles off the battery boxes that I set them in, and they fit just fine.fair windsDave
