As anyone figured out how to add an anchor windlass to a Hunter 33.5?

Check the photo forums

I'm sure it's not much different than on my 336. Check the photo forums. Basically, it comes down to this: 1. Build a platform for the windlass in the existing, shallow anchor locker. 2. Run a pipe from the anchor locker, past the toes of anyone sleeping in the vee-berth, to the space underneath the vee-berth. That's the chain locker. When I did mine, I got a model with a capstan (Lofrans) and cut a hole in the anchor locker door. If I had it to do over again, I would have got the non-capstan model, and mounted the entire windlass inside the locker, under the door. Paul sv Escape Artist h336

Adding Anchor Windlass (Thanks and question)

Thanks for the suggestion. Sounds like a great way to do it. I assume that you also had to add a bowsprit. How did you do that? My jib furling is below deck through a hole just aft of the bow which presents a real challenge. I suppose I could have it raised above deck but the hole still would present a problem. Carl

Anchor Locker Drainage

I've been thinking about installing a windlass on my H31 and would have to use the method suggested by Paul. But I've been wondering how to deal with the drip and mud that will wind up going under the v-berth. Can anybody share their experience with this? Thanks.

I didn't add anything to the bow. I already had a double anchor roller, I just had to build a frame inside the anchor rode locker, a couple of feet behind the bow. To prevent leaks, I fiberglassed the aluminum tube -- the hawsepipe-- to the floor of the anchor locker. No leaks. Then I ran the pipe through a hole cut in the vee-berth surface down to a small chamber below. My biggest concern was smells from the chain locker, since we sleep right above it. So, I installed a freshwater washdown fitting to the bow. Photo forum link: http://www.sailboatowners.com/upload/display.tpl?folder=73179524006&fno=17
