Adding a Tach to a Yanmar YSB12

I need a little help from the mechanics and Yanmar owners on this one. I'm sure it is possible but i'm not sure how to add a tach to my little 1 cylinder engine YSB 12.
Does anyone know if there is an actual port to screw in a tach sensor or do I need to try to take a feed from the alternator or use a fuel tube pick up?
Ultimately I would like to add a dash with all the gauges and the tach seems to be the sticking point.
How can I tell if my alternator is capable of a Tach output?
I'm sure I will have more questions as time goes on but this is just a start.

Couple of ways to do it.. one is "Tiny Tach" for diesel. It works by sensing the pressure pulse in the HP injection pipe.. http://tinytach.com/diesel.php
The other way to do it is with a tach that senses the alternator ac voltage wave frequency. Depending on the alternator you have installed, you may have to get an alt shop to install a "sense" connection or the alternator may have the connection built in. This one senses the wave from outside the alternator.

kloudie, I wonder how both Tachs would stand to weather in the control panel of an open cockpit. I do like the Tiny Tach for its hour meter capabilities.

Found this pricey panel option on EBay but requires a magnetic pick up which does not help Rad but might be interesting to someone looking to upgrade panel

I added a TinyTach DTL-6, http://tinytach.com/diesel.php, many years ago to my YSM12. Works great, wired it to the Yanmar instruments key switch. I also added a separate digital hour meter from Canadian Tire as the TinyTach hour meters are really a re-settable service hour meter and can not count more than 99 hours.

Thanks for all your help. I have a Tiny Tach - yet to be installed but was wondering about an engine mounted sensor Tach. Have been looking at the same dash that Benny pictured. It would fit great and all but the tach would work from the start.
How do you tell if your alternator has the tach sender ?
