Adding a Swim Platform or steps.

I'm looking for a way for my elderly parents to get onto my Catalina 30. I was thinking that a swim platform that they could step onto might help, although the stern railing is one complete section that wraps around the port and starboard sides. I installed a step on the starboard side ( plastic with four lines coming from it and attached to a track). That works for the rest of us but won't work for the old folks. If I add steps, they have to have wide treads. Any ideas?

A r gradually ramp gangway

I constructed a gradually angle ramp out of wood with sturdy handrails and small caster wheels on the dock end and heavy duty rubber for the boat side. Basically just like a gangway on a smaller scale. Put some non-skid material on it. great for pets or older folks that can't climb stairs etc..

How about

buying a newer boat with one. I think it would be the cheapest and best way to go.

Hi Malaga, check out the steps I made...

for our boat to help the admiral with boarding. You can find it in the Photo Forum on this site. Just another possibility. Terry

Very creative setup...

My purchased step is very similar, though it is a solid piece and about half the size. I will probably need something with two steps and possibly opening at the stern, that's why I'm thinking of a swim platform.....
