I recently purchased a Hunter 33.5, which is a fractionally rigged boat. Should the top of the spinnaker be attached to the mast head, or just above the top of the forestay. The forestay is attached to the front of the mast about 10 feet below the mast head.

Any thoughts?

I believe you don't have a back stay on your boat. The shrouds take over the load.So I would connect the spinnaker at that point.

Top of the forestay

You probably don't even have a halyard at the mast head going forward so you may not even have a choice. Putting a halyard at the mast head is a real pain BTW.

35.5s were set up by the factory for spinnakers and had a spin. halyard or messenger installed as you said, just above the forestay. Look around the base of the mast and see if it has an exit for a spin. halyard that is unused. Look up the mast with some binoculars and see if there is an exit for the same. Hopefully, another 33.5 owner will pipe in. Looked at several before buying my 35.5 but wasn't interested in spinnakers.

I do have a backstay, at the top of the mast. But the shrouds and forestay are attached much lower. I don't have any internal halyard locations for a spin. I have my mast on the ground and hopefully I can solve this before spring.

Thanks
