Thanks, that's what I thought. The idea behind keeping the mainsheet on top is so that when reaching or running we don't have the windward sheet flopping across the cockpit. Ideally, the point where all sheets meet will be kept as close to the deck as possible. I'm hoping this setup will work as a "floating" traveller. The only way to know for sure is to try it I guess--

That makes sense. I had pictured the lower block on the upper section to be overhead. I need to have mine upper blocks on the double attach directly to the boom as my outboard is mounted in a cut out in the stern (which I really like) and the original set up had me contorting between the track, the tiller and the split backstay to get to the engine. Kind of like the game "twister" but with an old fat man doing the twisting it wasn't pleasent for anyone. Another owner suggested I put the engine on a mount and reposition the track on the stern rail. Didn't like that idea so much.
Let me know how you like your new rig.
It may be a new rig and if so I think you should name it?

Here's the plan:
For what it's worth, I have been looking for ways to change the mainsheet on my boat, just so my wife won't have so much trouble with it. A birth defect in her left arm makes it very difficult to cleat the main on our Oday 23 because she cannot reach up to it and apply pressure to cleat the line. So, we were looking at a way to bring the block down to the transom. After examining the set up I am convinced Oday set the block on the back stay to maximize comfort in the cockpit, so that when the boom moves outboard, the sheet does not really affect a person sitting at the aft end of the seat. If we move the block to the transom then I think it might cause the sheet to hit someone in the face.

Anyway, I am wondering if the setup described here might cause a similar problem, in that the traveler will end up being in the way of anyone sitting at the end of the cockpit?
