just purchased a h 26 94 model. It has stern rail seats and I would like to add a bimini top. Is this possible? Also I notice that there is not a boom vang. Do I need one and would a boom-kicker work as well?

Don't...

do a boom kicker or a boom vang. Get a rigid boom vang from Garhauer Marine. You can get rid of the damn topping lift, shape you sail better and have a safer, cleaner looking boat. Yes, you can put a bimini on a 26 with stern rail seats. Mine is mounted opn top of the gunnals (sp?), but if you look at the pictures on the forum , you will see that one guy attached them where the deck and hull are joined. Good luck.

Head Room

You'll have to lift the boom just a bit if you want standing headroom under the bimini. My topping lift is marked for "bimini up" and "bimini down." So if you want shade you'll sacrifice a little sail shape. But then if the shade is up you're probably more concerned with beverages than with speed!

I second that

I also have a Hnter 26 with stern rail seats, a garhauer rigid vang and a bimini. It looks good and it works. You can get the info on the vang at www.garhauermarine.com

Get the right Bimini

John, I have the Hunter 6 foot bimini from Ameriseam. I have had problems with the rivets that hold the center bows together. They make a 6 foot and a 7 foot model. The 6 foot won't interfere with the boom, but it makes the stern rail seats almost impossible to use. The 7 footer is better, but then you run into sail shape problems. Either way, you want a clear window so you can see the windex and tell tails, which is pretty much not possible with a solid fabric top. I wish mine had one. Access on and off the boat, and to the cabin top is also more awkward. Since we usually appreciate the extra warmth of the sun on Lake Michigan, we have left the bimini in the garage this year.
