Would like to put in a second battery. where to mount it and then how to wire it. I charge my primary battery with a solar panel and occasionally during the summer to it off with a shore charge.

Second battery

Just wondering why you may want a second battery. What equipment have you added that requires the extra power? What type of battery are you using?

Extra

I also considered a second battery. I was concerned about mounting it on the starboard side of the boat with the existing battery. I figured the weight of two batteries and the outboard would cause the boat to list on the starboard side. I decided to go with a solar charger as well as a mounted volt meter so I can monitor the status of the battery instead.

Tell me about your solar panel

sorry to change the subject, but I am interested about your solar panel and where you installed it. Anyone else have suggestions?

Me too

Also thought about adding extra battery aft of the berths on the port side as it seems I all ready list a little to starboard. Has any body out there done this?

Solar and a second battery

I installed a solar panel on the back of my boat next to the chrome pipe leading down to the rudder. It looks really sharp and I only loose about 5% of it enery producing power mounted vertically. I to want to run a second battery. I have Auto Pilot, Depth and Knot, GPS, AM/FM/CD, VHF and a portable DVD player for the kids new this year. I have not studied this yet but I was thinking underneath the V berth. There is alot of room that I hardly ever access because of it location. Also the closer you have your eqipment to the battery the lesser voltage drop. One in front and one in the rear. I've got a question for someone. I accidently hooked both my positive and negative ground wires from my solar to the negative side of my battery for a week. Is my Solar panel done in? Thanks, Brad and good sailing.

Brad, I moved Both of Mine Up There

I glued down a peice of starboard with 5200 and installed both batteries in the rear portion of that space. If however your motor is an electric start you may want one forward and aft.
