Add a main sheet winch aft

My '95 Catalina 320 sails well, but when a gust hits when I am single handed, I can not reach the main sheet easily to make adjustments. I was considering placing another winch aft starboard (near the wheel) and bringing the main sheet past its normal winch to this one when single handling. Anyone ever do this? How did it work? Is the fiberglass at the cockpit coaming strong enough?

Traveler lines

If your traveler control lines are long enough, you can drape them over the binacle. This puts them close at hand in case you need to ease the main in a puff.
