I have a cracked acrylic sliding companionway hatch on my 322. I have quotes from D&R as well as a local company on an acrylic replacement, both being around $500. Has anyone built a fiberglass/wood or foam composite replacement hatch?

Bob if it was me, I'd rather spend the $500 elsewhere on the boat. Build a template from stiff cardboard and tape, then transfer the dimensions to 1/4" plywood. Have you fiberglassed before? Get some free literature from West System or Gudgeon. Perhaps practise on a few pieces of plywood. Will you miss the light infusion into the cabin? What about incorporating a smaller plastic skylight into the fabricated hatch? This could be a fun project. I see your from Portland. I'll be visiting your fair city in 2 weeks. Looking forward to it. Take care. Don
