Peggy, The area where my holding tank is located has a bitter or acrid smell. It is different from the usual holding tank smell. Are the hoses too old? They are original '83. I'm thinking that the odor is permeating through the hoses. But why the bitter smell? I will check the vent again but I am running out of ideas aside from replacing all the hoses and the tank. Thanks Paul Bryan H34 WhisperIII

It's your hoses...

That acrid odor is a chemical reaction of sewage and flex pvc. It's not a toxic chemical reaction, just unmistakeable. Been there too many times not to recognize it immediately from your description. If you can reach all the the hose, and you'd rather put off replacing all your hoses till season is over, wrap 'em tightly in Saran Wrap (gotta be the Saran brand). I did that once "till the season was over" and didn't re-hose for two years...it works!

You are my hero!

Peggy comes through again. I would never have thought of Saran wrap. Great Idea! You saved me some work this season, thanks. Paul Bryan
