I met a guy carrying a guitar case through the marina parking lot. When he cruises he buys a 50$ acoustic at a pawn shop, plays it on the cruise then sells it back for 25$. I offered him 25$ for it, an Ibanez and played it for several years. Great 25$ guitar.
When I was backpacking around Australia we had a guitar we picked up in a pawn shop. There were a few of us that played it, it was very well used by the end of that trip. I don't know where that guitar ended up but we enjoyed the heck out of it.

Now I sometimes take my Yamaha, that I have had for about 40 years, on board with me. I don't leave it on board, just take it when I go.

I have a Taylor gs mini that I normally keep on the boat in the quarter berth and never had any issues. Also bought a Luna walnut body satin finish that sounds amazing for a $375 guitar that I keep on the boat as well. We have a great time with our boat neighbors playing on the dock as most of them play an assortment of other instruments. We tend to set up the dock band almost every weekend and just jam for hours.
some of the best places to play is right in the cockpit. Nothing like a sunset stern concert anchored in a calm cove with other fellow boaters floating around in their rafts and dingys applauding after each set.

Looking at purchasing a Klos Carbon Fiber acoustic guitar, every one seems to rave about how great they sound.

I have 3 mandolins.
I keep one on the boat. It used to be my cheap mando but when I bought my 3rd my previous favorite found its way to the boat.

I used to only play when anchored out as not to disturb anyone else. Then after a particularly bad Memorial Day weekend, with the boat behind us playing bad gratuitous patriotic, country music till 0300 in the morning. The next morning at 0830 I pulled out the mandolin and while sitting in the cockpit played John Prine’s Your Flag Decal Won’t Get you Into Heaven Anymore.
when I finished a boat neighbor two boats down came over laughing and asked if he heard what he thought he heard, asking if I just played John Prine. When I confirmed, he replied that he assumed it was in response to the “idiots (his words not mine) last night” and then said, “well played”.
I assume he meant my smart ass response and not my actual playing.

that said, friends do ask me to play when the are on the boat. I also kept a Recording King parlor guitar on the boat for friends to play.

instruments are made to be played. Bring them and play them. But yes, maybe leave the $$$$$ ones at home. Beaters are easy to come by and for most people a cheap instrument will out preform the person playing it nowadays.
can we hear the difference between our nice stuff and our inexpensive gear? Sure. But when you are playing It is about the songs and the feeling it gives you and you friends/family.

you do you though.
