acetone

Does anyone know whether acetone is harmful to fiberglass or the gelcoat
on a Vega? Cleaning up a nasty stain on my vega hull, I discovered that
acetone does a much better job of removing stains than a commercial
product that was supposed to remove stains and be safe for gelcoats, but
it seems so powerful that I got worried about using in very much.

Also I'm curious, do other Vega owners routinely wax their cabintop,
cockpit, etc? I've always waxed my hull above the waterline (on a Vega
I've had only two years), but I'm wondering if wax would also provide
some good protection to gelcoat everywhere else--my fiberglass up on top
is rather dull and stains easily, and it seems that wax would protect it
there too. If so, should I use some other product first to remove
oxidation or otherwise condition it before waxing? Thanks!

Not only that, please use protection for your skin, eyes etc. !!!
A splash is easy made when working on the hull...
Good luck,

p.s. you might want to consider an oxalic acid, diluted with water.

Yes, but carefully....... Have plenty of clean water ready
