Anybody from the northern Chesapeake hear the details regarding the accident between a wave runner and 41 ft Fountain this weekend? Seems as though the Fountain ran over the wave runner which was carrying a young couple. One version I heard was the Fountain skipper was DUI at .17 BAC. The same source, who was on site, thought the women on the wave runner may have died as a result. She was medi-vac'd out. Just wondering if any of the local papers or news broadcasts had any converage on it.

Found a little something

Found this.... It's sad but not surprising given the way the speed boats and PWCs fly around with little regard for others on the water.

Thanks for the updates

Thanks guys I appreciate the updates, I was hoping she had survived. There's definately a lot of poor operators out there, in all types of boats. Many of them have been drinking as well. Certainly a grim reminder that you can never let your guard down while out on the water.

Boat Accident

I listened to the whole thing unfold..... Have a place on the Elk.. Just came in from Crabbing, cleaned and ate the crabs, had the VHF on just monitoring boat traffic... Heard the MayDay and it opened my eyes. Then listened for the next 1.5 hrs as a Capt of a trawler (eyewitness) that called the mayday gave a play by play... 40 minutes into it they were still giving the girl CPR.........then announced there was a partial amputation as well as someone that jumped in to assist also had a head injury... It was a reality check. The Capt relaying info, I give him all the credit as he stayed on scene and gave as much info to the CG & Marine Poles.... Helicoptor, shooting flares as the victims boat couldn't be found by rescuers.... Just wild.....what a tradgedy......

Intense I'm sure

Mike I'm sure it was very intense. We first heard of it while at Sailing Emporium in Rock Hall. I know a guy that has a piece of the Sea Tow franchise in that area and he said he was on the scene and things didn't look good for her. He also said the marine police took the Fountain into custody as the captain's BAU was .17, way over any legeal limit. Who was unltimately at fault I'm sure will be decided, but regardless, the results were tragic. It wasn't a good weekend for accidents. We also heard a captain outside of the Rock Hall area that had a crew member lose the tip of a finger after the anchor cut loose while under way. They had the rode tied off on a stern cleat and too bad for this guy as he must have tried to stop it only to have the running line sever his finger. Both graphic reminders that you always have to keep your guard up while on the water.
