Does anyone know how to access the upper rudder mount from the inside on a 1986 Catalina 25? We're having the boat painted and want to remove it. We found access to the lower mount in the quarter berth but can't get to the upper one.

Should be an access hole
My 25 had a hole cut on the inside of the cockpit, just big enough to reach in and undo the nuts. It had an inclinometer installed to cover the hole. It would be really simple to make a similar hole in your boat.

2 weeks ago I had to access 3 different sets of mounting bolts that were totall inaccessable. They make deck plates in sizes from 4 to 8 inches. These are screw in inspection ports that have an outer ring that bolts to the deck or bulkhead surface and has a hole from 4 to 8 inches in the center for access. The cover screws in to form a water tight seal.
They are cheap, work very well, are fast to install and unknown to many sailors. I got mine from West Marine and recieved them in 4 days.
