I have a 1994 Hunter 29.5, and need to replace the readout for the apparent wind instrument. It's mounted on the coaming above the sliding hatch, and I can't figure out any way to access the rear of the readout to unbolt it or detach the wiring - at least without cutting fiberglass. The attached photo shows where I'm referencing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help you at all. My 29.5 does not have that type of hatch cover.

Instruments are all at the helm.

Is that structure (where the Instrument is located) ON the sliding hatch cover, or BEHIND it? If behind it, close the hatch cover while you are inside the salon, and look up to see if there is any access then. Worth a try.

Perhaps it is a friction fit? Try wiggling it out. Nav's idea is also a good one. You might also see if the slider will go beyond "full out" (beyond where it normally is closed) z

It's behind the sliding hatch, and I did try what you suggested but didn't see any way to access it. Thanks for the suggestion.

It may well be a press fit, with some sealant around it. I'll try giving it a good twist and see if I can wiggle it out. Thanks.

I believe that you have to remove the whole deck portion. It's quite large, part of it covers where the lines are fed through.
My boat has a degree of heel indicator in that spot.

Try taking the sliding hatch off and see from the gap. To remove hatch, close it and lift forward portion then pull hatch out.
See if that works.

Just saw your query about access to instruments on your 295. I have a 1995 model and if yours is the same, you have to take the top deck off.
It's not as bad as it sounds. The deck is held in place with several screws which are easy to get at and you should see on top of the deck. It is also held on with silicon .once you take out the screws and break the silicon seal the worst job will be cleaning the old silicon off before refitting
I have had to do this twice when I had two instrument fail all the best Keith
