Access to holding tank on H40.5

I've tried the Hunter customer service center 3 times with no response but that's another story... Anyone here with experience getting access to the holding tank on a 40.5? I've tried removing the sole plates in the vicinity of the nav station but it's not easy so I'd like to know, before I continue trying, if that's the proper way to go about this. thanks in advance Don

Same here

I can't help with the holding tank but I can empathise with you about Hunter. I have a 2005 and have made 4 calls and numerous emails to Hunter service with similar type questions and have never received a single response!! I don't see how I can ever again buy a product from a manufacturer who ignores their customers after the sale. My dealer is worthless as well! What a shame!

Are others having different experience with Hunter support from the mfg? If it were my dealer, I know it would not be a problem Don

Pulling the tank is easy.......

I have had excellent service from both my dealer and from Hunter. A variety of people from the Hunter factory have been helpful to me. A case in point- I was down in the Chesapeake in the spring a few years ago getting our boat ready for launch. This is some 350 miles from my home in Massachusetts. I noticed some play in the rudder bearing that I had never noticed before and it seemed excessive. With my launch only 10 days away, I spoke to the dealer's shop people at that marina (Hunter dealer) They looked and didn't think it was significent. Not being completely re-assured, I went to the local library to check out the HOW archives and post a question about this play. The next morning at 7:30am I received a cellphone call from the Hunter factory. They cruise these boards and wanted to know if they could help. After a conversation with them, I was convinced that I did not have a problem. I think that is great service. Now about the holding tank- Removal is simple. I accomplished that very task this past weekend in less than 2 hours. Hunter's instructions are as follows: The small floor under the chart table would have to be removed by removing the flush screws on top of the floor and maybe some screws that go into the end of the floor in the bunk compartment, there may also be some screws going through a batten inside of the nav. seat, after removing these screws you should be able to slide the floor inboard to remove it. You would then have to remove the small face under this floor by removing the screws in the battens along the bottom edge. Remove all of the flush screws holding the large floor down in front of the nav. station and head and remove this piece of floor, after removing this you should have access to the holding tank. Also you need to remove the large piece of floor in front of the settee. The screws are obvious both inside and outside the seat storage area. After that the tank simply lifts out. About 60# so that you need 2 people to guide it out without hitting the woodwork in the cabin. I am replacing mine with a poly tank. I have a price quote from Triple-M Plastics in Maine for about $350. After I confirm that the tank I pulled out actually meets the drawing spec that I got from Hunter I will order. in 10 years or so and lots of calls. I have to wonder why a few people seem to have constant problems, yet so many of us here don't have any. I'm sure there is more to their stories than we actually hear ...

Here's how I get to the tank

I also have a 40.5. This may be similar to the answer below, but I will put my 2 cents in. 1. The floor board at the settee(and under the settee) has to come out first. If you don't take this out, the other floor board by the nav station and head can't be removed. Remove the screws that are under the settee (inside the 3 access hatches). These screws connect the settee to the floor, so to remove the floor from under the settee, the screws have to come out. 2. The small floor area under the nav station also has to come out. 3.Once you remove the settee floor, you can remove the next floorboard that goes between the aft end of the settee and the head. I've done this twice. Once to change some hoses, and the second time was to remove the floor boards to redo the finish. Hope this helps.

We fabricate each tank from sheetstock, we do not mold them. We use 100% polypropylene, nitrogen weld it and test each tank individually. We use baffles on all our tanks and drill and tap for the required fittings. Based on the drawing you sent me your tank would cost $ 347.00, not including shipping and/or delivery. I think that there are a few owners that would be interested in a poly replacement tank where we could pool our order. I anticipate replacing the tank between November '05 and March '06.
