My mast lights are inop (anchor, box and deck lights). I had the lights replaced and rewired after a lightening hit. However, my electrician says that I am not getting negative feed to the lights. The mast light connection is inside the mast (28 Catalina)...and does not have (currently) a mast access panel. One option is to lift the mast up and reconnect the wire connector....expensive. I was wondering is it possible to remove the compression pole inside the cabin (temporarily) to access the wiring harness and fix.

On my C-30, I removed the "halyard sheaves" at the base of the mast to gain access to the wiring harness...this may be an option for you as well. I don't know about removing the compression pole.
Drop the mast
4 or 5 adult men lowered the mast on my friends 28 right at the dock. We rigged a line through a block at the base of the back stay, attached the line to the back stay and over to a winch. We then had a person hold each of the lower shrouds, one standing on a finger pier and one standing on the other, attach a line if there is no pier on each side and ease it down nice and straight. We put the heaviest guy at the base of the mast to hold it in place. We rigged a 2x6 12' with a notch and just lowered the mast to that height, standing on main pier in front of the boat. It went down and right back up nice and slow and steady. The mast is not that heavy.
The big thing is probably finding the right dock.

The big problem is that the conduit dos not run thru the mast. ?There is a small piece of conduit at the top and a small piece at the bottom with a sweep. It took me hours to find the hole at the bottom with a fishing rod tip .If you can pull the ground out with a piece of line on it you could pull the new one in the same way. Most of the wire are taped together so it wont pull out . John

I have a C 27 (old). The mast wiring has been replaced a long time ago. Currently nothing electrial works on the mast. I suspect the connector near the base of the mast, (inaccessable on the inside of the mast) is the problem. It connects the wiring up the mast with the extended wiring running to the fuse box. I disconnected all mast wiring at the box, and metered out the black bround with each wire. All had high resistance. I am thinking there is a corroded ground connection at the connector. Its looking like I need to take the mast off just to get to this connector. Does anyone have any other options that might work?
