AC72 Capsizes on SF Bay & Swept to Sea Under GG Bridge

A big ebb current swept the Oracle AC72 out the Golden Gate on Tuesday after it capsized off the San Francisco waterfront and was severely damaged. Per the attached clip of the Golden Gate current chart, the water was flowing at 5kts on Tuesday (10/16) afternoon!

These guys are going to have to learn how to depower the boat into a downwind turn. Alain Thebault and his French crew learned that the hard way about 5 years ago with their speed demon Hydroptere. They caught a tip and pitchpoled during a gybe -ended up turtled.
