My Hunter 430 has a Grunert AC compressor, which does a very good job. However, when running on the inverter, there is some/much efficiency loss. Would there be enough increase in efficiency and improvement in battery usage to consider replacing it with a DC compressor? Thanks

You should contact Grunert and ask them to give you an opinion on using a 12v compressor for this system.

George....We have a 95' 430 and I checked

into the conversion. The local dealer came by checked the unit, and advised it leave it as is. Aside from being expensive he said the 12v compressors aren't as efficient as the 110v so you will run 12v longer to get the same result. Additionaly with the 3 plate system in the 430 it would take a very large 12v unit. We have found that our unit is so efficient that we need only run it 1 hour each am and pm. The freezer stays frozen and the fridge cold. Hope this helps. Dick McKee S/V Constellation

George, Our experience is similar to Dick's. We run our frig off the generator for an hour in the morning (after someone else has fired up their genset) and an hour in the late afternoon. If we motor during the day, I'll run the frig through the inverter for a while. We always have ice for G
