AC trouble:how to fix fried pump?

well someone on the boat turned on the 2005 MarineAirr Coldmate 10K (cool-only)to 'FAN' then "RUN" without opening the seawater seacock supplying the watercooled magnetic drive seawater pump "techniCold TE 250 5 GPM. 10 minutes later i relaized that... now the pump will not even start . (pump is supposed to start in 'FAN mode then when you turn to RUN the compressor supposedly starts. there is a protection on the compressor . i took out the impeller and the pump drive shaft but nothjing looked weird. it just wont pump water. called the company and they suggested sending back the unit for a $105 per hour exam and repair charge...

any one have any other ideas? if i knew what the pump impeller and housing and innards were supposed to look like in good condition, i think i could figure out what parts are needed and put them in myself. frying the AC is tough to apy $$$$ for when you are retired and on social security so i am trying to fix as much myself as i can ..

any ideas out there ?? thanks and fair winds...

This doesn't make sense - A/C circulator pumps are always centrifugal pumps and therefore shouldn't have an impeller. Regardless, either type pump cannot operate without water and will quickly burn out the winding. If that is what really happened, it is not a diy repair.

The bad news is that the pump uses the water to cool the rotor drive magnets and lubricate the bearings in the sealed end.. If it ran for some time without water, the magnet could have been fried to the point of not being able to drive the impeller, or the bearings are shot and the rotor won't turn under load.. sounds like a new pump is in order but troubleshooting before pitching it is in order. Look for something like this :

Not a flex impeller but an impeller for centrifugals looks like this, Inflow in the center (eye) and outflow at the tips
