Trying to AC my 1996 280. Service tech says I need can't use a self contained unit... need to install a split configuration (separate components). Seem like plenty of room in the area under the v-berth next to the HW heater. Any thoughts? How hard to move the hot water. WHo sell a reasonable split system?

Not familiar with....

"split unit". But if you have a standard size cardboard box lying about you have a Mermaid A/C. Cut the top one-inch off and the box should be about 17Wx13Dx12H. Now you can find the place where it fits the best. The real challenges are: 1) whether to use a separate thru-hull for intake; 2) how to run any ductwork; and 3) wiring to a new 115V circuit breaker. I did not use a separate thru-hull. Chose to put a 'T-valve' between the present raw water strainer and fresh water pump. No new holes and a better strainer. Not using any ducts. Main duct blows into salon under nav table. Use fans if more cooling needed in forward v-berth on my H37C. My installation is close to the AC/DC panel and adding a circuit breaker to the buss was a piece of cake. Mermaid thermostat is digital and programmable. Ed(schencked@bfusa.com)
