Effective October 30, 2019 the ABYC standards are now accepted as Transport Canada / Federal law compliant for pleasure craft.
This is a good move for boat builders not having to build to two different standards. While it is now accepted Federal law, I don't know if Canada has any means to police the boating industry in order to see that builders are actually adhering/building to the standards. Transport Canada has been law for a long time, yet not many boats I've worked on have actually complied fully.
ABYC is still a voluntary standard in the US.
