Ablative paint

I'm tackling the task of bottom painting this year. I purchased a copolymer ablative paint from West Marine that was suggested to my by friends and the salesman at the store. The marina last year used a latex ablative paint. Are these paints compatable? Will a basic sanding with 80 grit and a good washdown be adequate for good adhesion and a good job?

Oil base over water base

By latex, I assune the previous painters mean water base anti-fouling paint.I used to use water base anti-fouling paint, but its lack of popularity makes it difficult to find.I painted oil base ablative over water base ablative with a fairly thorough sanding of the previous water base ablative and obtained good results.There should not be any compatability problems.I think your basic sanding and good wash down will be sufficient to obtain satisfactory results.
