Wasn't me. I had been using Pettit Ultima SR@ about 200 a gal and last year I ran into the Pettit rep at West Marine and he told me that the West Marine ablative brand is made by Pettit and cost half the price so last season I tried it and it worked just as well.
Hermit..
I have been using a product by Pettit called Transducer paint that is in a spray can and if you follow the directions and prime the metal correctly all ya have to do every season is add more transducer paint but since I isolated the prop and shaft I'm not sure what kept the critters off the metal but it looked clean this haul out

I just knew somebody was going to tease me about the two tone thing! It was strictly for aesthetics...I had just bought my dream boat and I wanted it to look the part...even on the hard. I didn't spend much time on it.

Thanks to all for you input. I think I will go with my plan and see how I make out. I am not convinced that I will wear off all that much of the paint, but we'll see.

I agree with rpell46 and Ron - After a couple years of doubt, we applied a coat of black, then a coat or 2 of red. When we haul out and get pressure washed, we sometimes end up with a few places where they washed a little to deep. We just touch up where the black shows through, thus avoiding a buildup of coats. It takes 3 gallons to put on one coat, so it cut down on our cost as well.
