Thought I'd bring you up to date. As I described in a February posting, I decided to sail our boat over to the Abacos in advance of our vacation. We cast off lines in Marathon, FL on May 2 at 6:30pmWe had a great trip, arriving in Westend in 18 hours making about 10kt SOG in the Stream , ~ 6 kts of actual boat speed, most of the way. Very light winds so we motorsailed a good part of the time. Saw several large freighters and a couple of cruise ships during the night but when we hailed them they always had us in visual and radar. We spent a couple of hours in Westend, clearing in, fueling up, and having lunch. I had planned to arrive Friday around 4:30 but we got there at 1pm.We left WE about 4pm and made our way through the cut at Indian Cay on to the Little Bahama Bank. We motorsailed on autopilot across the bank on a course that took us from Westend, north of Mangrove cay, then south of Great Sale Cay, then east, arriving at the top of the Sea of Abaco about 4am Saturday. We then headed South toward our destination, Man-O-War Cay. As we approached the point where we'd have to exit the sea through the Whale Cay Passage, we got all worked up from what we had read so we attached the enclosure, to keep the spray off, got the foul weather gear out, made sure the PFDs were handy, and sailed out across a huge swell of about 6 inches, Oh well, better prepared than not. We quickly put all that away before anyone could see. We got to Man-o-War at 10:30 Saturday morning and were on our mooring by noon; I had planned to arrive about 4pm so we were way ahead of schedule which was great. More than one person, noone here, expressed doubt that we'd get there in the 48 hours allotted but, at least on this trip, it was a snap. The Abacos look like they're going to be fun to explore. We are moored in West Harbor on MOW. My thanks to Bill Thiers, of Hilton Head, SC, Ian Garriques, Key West, and my stepson, Jonathan Knox, for their help.We left Sunday morning when Albury's Ferry Service pulled up next to the boat, we tossed our bags over and headed for Marsh Harbor. It was Sunday so there wasn't much to do except eat and walk around the Marinas looking at boats. The restaurant overlooked the Moorings fleet, so we watched the people checking in for their charters while we ate. I saw several other Passage 42s in the marina. We left for home about 1pm. Deisse and I head back in two weeks for vacation, my first 2 week vacation in over 20 years. We're leaving the boat over there until early July so we can make a couple of long weekend trips.
