when I fueled up there, John. Payback's pretty quick on the 10 to 15 gallons I buy every three months. Wanna go partners in a container??? Bet we could get one cheaper than WM at Wal Mart!!!

I never have bought fuel at a dock. Have three 6 gallon plastic
cans and always use those. With my ten gallon on board tank I carry one or two cans lashed to the quarter deck. The engine manual said automotive diesel so that what I buy.

Diesel difference
The only difference between diesel, and off road diesel is the taxes, and the dye. There is no highway tax on off road diesel, and the put the dye in it to tell the difference. Anyone who tells you one is better than the other is selling a bill of goods. I'm still not convinced about the new ultra low sulphur fuels being as good at lubricating internal engine parts as the older fuels. I do add some conditioner to my fuel these days.

I fill up 3 gallons at a time 4 to 5 times a year so I have been buying my diesel at gas stations for a long time. Fuel is fresher and their tanks are more reliable; oh, and by the way cheaper. The only exeception is when we go on a trip and have to refuel on the water and I open the wallet and cross the fingers.

The price of a 5 gallon yellow container is almost twice the price of a red one. Go figure. I just bought a yellow one so I dont get my gas and diesel mixed up by accident. Thats how I know. Tony B

Off road diesel, if you can find a place that sells it, is cheaper if you buy it from a place that sells it to farmers. It is usually about a dollar cheaper than regular highway diesel. I use this stuff in my tractor at home.

Thirty maybe sixty dollars worth of fuel lashed to the deck,I hope your keeping an eye on it I've been only putting fifty dollars worth of diesel in my work trucks cause the thieves have been hitting the trucks at place's of business in the night

If you can find
If you can find a farm distributor in your area you can save a bunch on diesel. The marinas fuel is not taxed with the highway tax, but they still jack the prices way, way up. I talked to a friend of mine today, and was informed that the liability insurance they have to carry is a lot of the reason for the big fuel markups. A farm distributor will have the same dyed diesel you get at the marinas. Off road diesel is off road diesel. But they normally sell larger quantities, and are much cheaper. Problem is I can't follow my own advice, as I cannot find anyone around here who sells farm diesel.

I just bought two of the yellow Diesel Jerry Jugs last month They were $22.95 at West Marine and $9.95 at Home Depot! Hmmm... I like West Marine, but not THAT much. Here in California they can only sell these new style eco-friendly no-drip fillers on the jugs. They are really HORRIBLE. I cannot seem to make them work without spilling. I never spilled with the old style. I think that the guys who designed them and the guys who passed the law never tried to use one. Really pisses me off!

My 2GM20F burns less than a quart an hour. I don't mind paying the marina if it helps them stay in business. It's the gas for my car to get me to the boat that's killing me.

are almost as dangerous as simply pouring the fuel right out of an open spout. West Marine's Chuck Hawley tried to get them to do something about it, but you're right, bloody bureaucrats won't reverse a dumber than sh*t decision. And the whole idea was to prevent spills. Our Gov't at work, yet again. I guess none of the idiots responsible for this has a boat or a lawn mower. I kept my old 3 gallon gas can. Hmmm, now that I think about it, it'd work great for diesel refills. Thanks for the idea, guys...

I have a nice galvanized funnel with a fine bronze
screen and I pour straight from the spout to the funnel to the tank. I put a handful of oil absorbant sheets around the port and wipe up my spills. I bet I could modify those driplees spouts.
