A whole new meaning to the word yuck

So, we drive up to the marina today to pull out the old nasty holding tank on Emmanuel. when we arrive I am pleased to see that our new tank from Triple M has arrived and is waiting for us. Captain Grumpy gets to work pulling up the cabin sole and working on removing the fittings from the tank. The smell is pretty bad but manageable. We get the fittings removed and the bolts unscrewed from the hold down flanges and now the smell is really bad. We decide it is now time to lift the tank out. We both grab hold and lift and we realize that the tank is full!!! A 40 gallon aluminum holding tank and it's full of black water!!! We were horrified. The worst part is that because of the moving around some of that nasty water has sloshed out and then makes it's way to the bilge, which because of the automatic pump, it kicks on and then we're pumping that stuff right out onto the parking lot. It was awful. It turns out that the previous owner had arranged for the marina to do the winterizing on the boat and they didn't pump the holding tank!! All they did was throw some pink stuff in the heads and pumped it into the tank. It was truly disgusting.

Talk to the marina manager

If the marina was paid to perform a duty, and it was either an oversight or negligence, they should make good on it. Is this the same marina that you proudly were showing off a few weeks ago. They should pay you for the free advertizing you gave them. Least they could do is help empty the holding tank, and maybe even lend you a hose to flow some fresh water thru the bilge. Good luck, and hoping you come out of this smelling like a rose

Okay, do you have the copy of the...

..contract? How do you know who is telling the truth? Show me the paperwork and documentations. Otherwise, I agree with letterman....didn/t it occur to check the tank? What was your agreement with the marina? Why didn't this come up during the survey prior to purchase? Too many questions need answering before jumping on the marina. Good luck.abe

It is kind of funny

and I am not dissing Pike's Bay Marina. Yes, it was in our purchase agreement with the PO that he was paying for the winterizing of the boat. Yes, I saw a copy of his agreement with the marina for the winterizing (which included pumping out the holding tank). Yes, we were the last people on the boat in October the day before it got hauled and I mentioned again to the service manager that the holding tank needed pumping. Yes, when we boarded the boat a couple of weeks ago there was a copy of the commisioning check list with the "winterize head and holding tank?" box checked completed. So, it seemed a pretty safe bet that the tank was empty but more fool me I suppose. As soon as we realized what was going on my husband called the marina manager who came back to the marina and helped us get the hose out to help us clean up the boat and the parking lot. When they launch us on Tuesday, they will pump it out and remove the old tank for us. Sheesh guys, ease up on me a bit. I thought it was just another funny sailors story. I did not mean to fling mud on the marina. An honest mistake was made but they are taking care of it, they always do. Maybe I should have made that more clear in my post but I never thought the reaction would be so, well, negative. RW, I have to say that your response is about what mine would have been to this post. Someday, we'll look back and laugh about this!
