We did Peru a little over a year ago.. Father in law was born/raised there, most of his family/relatives are still living there, and we went to attend a wedding and make a vacation out of it. Quite a trip. And although we did the 'must see' tourist sites, for the most part we saw the country like natives.. stayed in relatives houses and rented a small bus to drive around the country in (there were 16 of us!). Being a smoker, I was huffing on the oxygen tanks most of the time in Cusco.. but did get to see Machu Picchu, the sacred valley, etc.. Last part of the trip was driving from a small fishing village in the southern part of the country (Pucusana) back to Lima up along the coast. We wound up picking up a maraichi band that needed a ride to Lima and they serenaded us the whole way back.

Machu Picchu and the surrounding areas were fantastic.. amazing what those people did, and a shame that large portions of their culture were wiped out and lost forever. We spent a little over 2 weeks there, and although it was quite an experience, we sure were glad when we got back to the states!

Cheers,
Brad
