Me sailing buddy actually accused me! First - the Admiral vetoed the new to me boat that I was looking at! * * * * Too small, she said - but a bigger one was OK with her. Second she started wearing a "Fouled Anchor" pin on her dress. Then - she said: buy a boat in a nice place to vacation and we will take a long vacation there this summer before towing it home. Last, she insisted that I tow it to Washington state next summer so that we could cruise the San Juans. Me sailing buddy thinks this is suspicious behaviour for the Admiral - actually accused me of nefarious behaviour - trading the Admiral in on a Stepford Admiral! Well, I work with robotics - did I accidently tap a few keys programming while daydreaming - and produce a Stepford Admiral? Or have dreams of resting in quiet places, kayaking, whale watching and so forth just taken over the Admiral's imagination? Guilty or Innocent? What is the Jury verdict?

Once the

bug catches...My wife pushes me in those directions as well. I like a pushy Admiral indeed.

Give lessons?

Do you think she would give my husband lessons so he can get with the program? I don't necessarily want him wearing a fouled anchor pin on his dress, but insisting on a bigger boat and long sailing vacation would be nice . . . :)

Is this a complaint??

If so, do you want to trade? OR, if a stepford admiral, make me one? Bets of luck to the both of you! :)

Stepford Admiral

While checking out possible home sites in Oriental a few years ago, my wife (not yet my wife, but she is now and I am SO lucky!) remarked that if we had a boat bigger than our 28, we could go North in the summer and escape the Carolina heat. I said I would take this under advisement. When a boat that caught my fancy turned up, it was she who pushed going to see it the next weekend, and a month later we brought her home. They exist, don't ask why, say "Thank you" to both her and the sea gods, and go sailing! Bill Coxe, O28 (avail)/O40, New London, CT

Oldcat, what a wonderful field of study!!!

Can you send me the "need a bigger boat program"? Soulds like a great plan and and wonderful dynamics! Do not reprogram her. r.w.landau I am 52 and wished that I had known about robotics and it's diversity when I was young. I would have jumped on it in a minute!

And if need be,

send her up here. I'll try to de-program her when my wife doesn't feel like sailing. And the dogs can chaperon. ;)

I wish I knew . . .

I wish I knew . . . How the darn program works! If I ask her if she wants to go sailing - well she probably won't be much interested. But - if I ask her about chartering a boat to somewhere cool, then she isall over it. I am off to California next week to do a bit of chartering with our oldest son and look at a few boats whilst there. It was she who said if I buy one -then to leave it there so we can do a coastal Catalina island vacation. So - I still can't figure out this Stepford Program and its nuances. Nearest I can figure - the best sell is to take her somewhere that she likes, and then include the boat. This is about the best I can do advise-wise for those needing a few lines of sailing code for a spouse! Mine is getting warmer to it over time. :)

Sometimes it all goes sooo right!

I said,"Let's try kayaking"she said "sure!" Now we're kayaking 2-3 miles offshore, island to island in Maine. I said"Let's go camping"she said"sure!" We camped in the Whites this past weekend-5 below zero Saturday night. I said "Let's try XC skiing"she said"sure!" So there we are,7 miles to the hut,and it's 18 below when we have to ski out in the morning. Sailing???Bought the 21 last year. Lets get a bigger boat-she says "sure" New dinghy at the boat show? She says "sure!" I've lived and gone to heaven!:)

All sounds good except the part about

"towing it home", are you sure you are looking at big enough boats?

Stu, mmm I think you over looked one...

there's a third, my Patti. Of course she gets just about anything she wants, too. When we decided it was time to get a larger boat I had my eye on the 40.5. Then I made the mistake (or was it insight) of letting her look at our current sister boat. She told me, in no certain terms, that if we were going to get a larger boat this is the one she wanted. Oh darn! Terry
