A small tale of woe

After a few month hiatus from sailing I visited the boat a few week back and found the batteries DOA, I had to replace them both, they simply wound not accept a charge. I concluded the plug on the small trickle charge solar panel had corroded preventing them from charging, so I redid all the connections and still no light on solar regulator. Pulled it all out of the boat and took in home to the work bench. Panel was pumping out 16v so I concluded it was the solar regulator. Bought a new one. Still no light. After scratching my head for a minute I rechecked the panel - it was putting out 16v alright but no measurable amps, apparently internally it has a broken wire so I bought a new solar panel. So for want of a $40 panel I bought 2 new batteries, a new solar regulator (with remote meter), and a new solar panel, plus all my connections are nice and clean. Must be getting old, I used to be good at this stuff.
