So we all hear the comments that some people make about Hunters being inferior and I know there is a lengthy string on "Hunter Bashing" on one of the other forums. Well I had a small experience yesterday that made me feel pretty good.
I was sailing along in light wind and another boat tacked and tucked in behind and to starboard of us on the same course. The boat looked pretty serious (not sure what make it was) and he was flying a gennaker. It was pretty obvious he planned to overtake me. All I was flying was my main and well worn 150% genoa. For all his efforts with the gennaker he couldn't catch me.
The two of us were coming up to big tanker which was going to force a tack. I was waiting for him to tack first and make room for me but he wouldn't - he was too intent on getting ahead of me. Finally, tiring of the game we tacked a full 180 degrees in the very small amount of space between us. I could have gybed but the tack worked out perfectly and as we passed closely by the other boat, one of them said "Nicely done! That's a Catalina right?" I said "No, a Hunter!" He had nothing more to say...
