A second holding tank

Has anyone added a second holding tank to their 36CC? If so, where did you locate the tank and how did you run the hoses? With the current small tank (<15 gallons) and three daughters, increasing the capacity sure would be nice. Thanks, Dave

Two tanks only if you have two heads

Linking tanks together to increase capacity from one toilet is fraught with potential for disaster. When you have two heads, each connected to its own tank, anything that goes wrong with one system doesn't affect the other...but when two tanks are linked, both have to be vented, both have to be maintained for odor, there's additional plumbing...and whatever goes wrong ANYwhere impacts everything else. So if you need more tank capacity, lets find a place to put a bigger one. Where are you? If you're not on a "no discharge" inland lake, maybe the answer is a Lectra/San.

Like lettuce...

...two heads are not always better than one. Better to stick to one head, one tank, one man, one vote to pump out every three days.

A second holding tank - not!

Thanks for the opinions. I guess a second tank isn't an option. Peggy, I'm in Lake Michigan. As I'm relatively new to boating, any pointers to information on the Lectra/San would be appreciated.

Lectra/San not legal on Great Lakes

They're all strictly "no discharge" on both the US and Canadian sides...which means you're stuck with a holding tank. Check the article "What Size Holding Tank Do I Need?" in the HM forum reference library (since you're new at owning a boat with plumbing, it prob'ly wouldn't hurt you to read the rest of the articles too)...once you've determined that, we'll work ou the details. I THINK that's also where I posted a link (I remember putting it in one of the articles) to Ronco Plastics, who have more than 400 different shape/size holding tank molds to choose from. Check out their catalog too.

All ready checked it out

Peggy - Thanks! Actually, my wife and I are very familiar with your writings. I've probably downloaded and we've probably read everything off the archives. I have the Ronco tank catalogue. Now, it is a matter of figuring out where I could possibly put a larger tank and stay within the running distance (6'-10' if I remember right). Right now, the tank is in a locker in the head. (On a 36CC, the head runs along the engine on the starboard side. Immediately forward is the nav station. Immediately aft is the aft-cabin.) I may be able to sneak a few more gallons in the head locker by buying the right tank, but I'm sure I won't be able to double the capacity. I'll do some more investigation (measuring and reading) and try to figure out if I can get a larger tank in the head locker or if I can make the run to get below the aft-cabin bunk. Any issue is the diesel tank is located under the aft-cabin bunk as well? Thanks, Dave PS Being new to this group, is there a way to take this off-line or does all communication stay through this mechanism? I don't care. Just don't want to fill up the bitways with stuff that is so specific to be only of interest to me.
