Hello Fellow O'Dayites, Thanks for the input on these O'Day boats (Don Evans) and everyone else that has sent me information on the 37. After looking everywhere within a reasonable distance to Lake Erie I have found one to buy. We are only a sea trial away from sealing the deal and pretty excited about having a new "hole in the water to throw our money into!" You can be assured I'll have plenty more questions for you and if anyone would like a rendeveous on the great lakes I'd be willing. howie freewill@nlc.net

Excellent Howard

Tell us a bit about your boat? Your right, the excitement is just beginning. There will be no shortage of work to keep your boat bristol, but as only us obsessed sailboat owners know (and our partners)its a labour of love and pride. Congratulations on the new addition Howard. Don

Our boat to be

Well Don, The boat we found was a "must sell" and the broker said the owners just "had enough of sailing" Is that possible? seem's i couldnt get enough! The boat looks like it was abandoned before winter layup, dirty, charts and such all over the place. But beneath the dirt is a solid boat with only normal mechanical maintenance and a lot of cleaning up to do. I go for a sea trial this friday and if all goes well i'll finsih the deal. It's a 79 with the yanmar 30hp, the owners had a top to bottom survey done in 1999 and it shows the boats in very good condition with the need for normal maintenance to be done. hopefully thats all we'll find and have it up here in time for the summer. howie

Sea Trials On Erie In February?

Amazing!! BRRR... bundle up. Always thought the cockpit screams to be buttoned up with full canvass. Haven't seen a 37 in person, but looks like a full cockpit enclosure is a possibility, and would bridge the 2 cabins nicely. I really like the seperate aft cabin. Let us know how the trials turn out. Don

Reply to Sea Trial

Howard, Don's comment about sea trials on Lake Erie caught my eye and I then read your post. I also sail out of Catawba Island. We have a slip at Harbor Park Marina (where you see the multi-colored sailboat alongside Rt. 53 on Catawba. How about sending me a post with all the details, i.e. where the boat is now, who the broker is, what needs to be done, etc.? I've been down to the boatyard a few times this winter and am always looking at other boats. Love to take a look at your "new" one and chat later during spring commissioning time when we're all down there working. Don't mean to be nosy. It's just nice to hook up with another ODay owner in the area. E-mail me at tomclaud@wcnet.org Congratulations on your find!! Tom

Then we set sail for catawba and my marina is right up the street from you at Herl's Harbor. So it looks like we will have an O'Day Rendeveous after all! cant wait to hear from ya howie
