Taxpayer funds things like mace that shoots 70 year old women that do not cut their grass, or to fund pat down searches of 4 year old babies flying planes. We as a nation support that with our tax dollars. I say, turn back the clock, and give me back the country I grew up in where the motto of all branches of government was protect and to serve. We are becoming a nation of drones, where the person is removed completely from the interaction. At the tone, press one for........ It is not my world anymore. I do not recognize the place. I grow more ashamed and less and less proud as each new day passes. Where is all this leading? It is not just our untied boats that are headed for the rocky shores.

Bottom line: It is not up to John Q. Taxpayer to protect someone's private property.

Not for recreational boaters engaged in shore to ship communication. In this case Les would be alerting boaters in the vicinity. You are required to identify yourself. eg "This is Capt Les of the sailing vessel LessIsMore" :)

Regarding using Marine VHF radios on shore; is the really true? I was under the understanding that you could monitor, but not TRANSMIT when off-ship with a marine VHF.

Now mind you I know its very common for 'shore parties' to take their handhelds with them, I do that too.. Just wondering about the exact wording, and transmission. I'm betting it illegal.

A Ch16 Securite' for a boat dragging across an anchorage falls under the "aiding the exchange of safety communication" exclusions for land use.

Calling in the beer run, not so much.

A good pair of programmable FRS radios work better anyway. From anchoring and spin sets, to private shore conversations. Mine are set up, and locked, so that all you have to do is turn it on, and press a button to ring the other radio and start talking.

If you sail around Annapolis and have been told to clear 16 by someone other than the USCG, it was probably me. Automated Radio Checks.

Awesome to know that. Thanks for the clarification!
