A real trailerable weekender

My wife and I now sail a Oday mariner and up till last summer I thought I was looking for a Southcoast 22 but after sailing with one for 2 days I can no longer see use in a SC 22. Our Mariner sails faster points higher and does both at the same time. I don't want to step up in size and down in proformence.  If any of you have any ideas on what kind of boat may work for us please let me know. We are looking for a weekender with a swing keel that I can put in and out with out help. Same Old Cliche

Catalina 22, swing keel.....I know, but I have one and there is an Oday 23 thst I encounter frequently on my lake. In my o[pinion, I can point higher, and sail faster. I even sail better on a downwind run. It may have to do with his ballast being more than twice as heavy, 1220# vs. 550#.

More performance...

but harder to launch, is the Ericson 23 Mk 2 with centerboard. The boat draws 2' board up and 5'1" with it down. It will outperform a Catalina 22, but the mast is more robust, heavier, and harder to raise (though 2 can do it). It is not a boat you will want to trailer for an afternoon sail, but for a long weekend, maybe... It has a shoal keel and sails well with the board up, as the ballast is in the keel, not the board. Dry it weighs 3300, so you need more than a minivan or small pickup to pull it. But lots of bang for the buck - same price as a C22 with performance that rivals most 25's of that vintage.

Starwind 223

We have a Starwind 223. Centerboard with a real keel, nothing intruding in the cabin. It's pretty roomy and sails quite well. The main cabin makes out into a queen size sleeping area. About 20" draft with board up, 6' with it down.I can rig it myself using a mast I built on the trailer. I was able to raise the mast on our older Clipper Marine 21, but this one is a bit much for one. However, with the mast on the trailer, it's not bad.They sell from around $3000 to around $6000.You're probably 350 miles from us in Central Mo. but if you want to come down and see it and sail it, let us know.Gene G.

Mariners are great sailers, but.....

We had a 19' Mariner, and loved to sail her. We were the smallest sailboat to go to the Dry Tortugas one year.However we did have to bring a tent so we had somewhere to sleep - that 'doghouse' is TOO SMALL for two!!!Our son now sails her in Wisconsin.

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS....

I own a Mac26C, easily trailerable. Its a great overnighter too. No problems to launch!!Ive discovered how to A/C it with a small 5250 SEARS AC unit...through the hatch doorway....for year round camping...in or out of the water. GREAT FUN for the family.
