A question for Peggie on PH II

I’ve had a problem with a PH II that I have not seen discussed and that has cured itself. The question is why did it happen and will it happen again? I installed a Raritan PH II last summer and it worked fine. It was winterized with pink antifreeze when laid up for the winter and the antifreeze flushed out this Spring. When I started using it this Spring, water dribbled out steadily at the stem of the flush/dry valve primarily when it was in the flush position. The water dribbled out where the stem of 1203BW (intake valve body) goes thru 1203B (intake valve cap). After about a total of 10 flushes over a one week period, the water leakage simply stopped. It has been ok now while I’ve done about 20 more flushes. Raritan did not know why this happened and sent me new gaskets which I have not put in. Allan

antifreeze

I detached the seawater intake hose from the seacock, put the hose into the antifreeze, and drew the antifreeze into and thru the pump by pumping the pump lever. I pumped more than a gallon of antifreeze through. Allan

That's the right way to do it...

And shoots down my theory as to what caused your leak. I dunno what caused it leak, then stop leaking either. My GUESS is that some gasket(s) dried out over the winter...and swelled up again enough to reseal the connection with renewed use this spring. If only all problems solved themselves...

Thanks Peggie

I'll hold on to the gaskets that Raritan sent to me and if it leaks again this season or next Spring, I'll change the gaskets. An interesting problem; if/when I change gaskets, I might see a reason. Possibly there is a bit of fine debris caught in a gasket (I have a strainer) and that caused the leak, and the gasket swelled around it to seal it. Thanks Allan
