A question about standing rigging

So, I have stepped the mast on my CP-22 exactly once (when I bought it last August). Now I am preparing to do it again. One problem I encountered is keeping the shrouds connected at the mast during the stepping process. The "hook" that engages in the mast will easily fall out if the shrouds rotate during raising the mast. On my last boat, there were rubber bungs that went into the mast after the shroud was positioned in the mast slot, to prevent the hook from falling out, but no such animal on my CP-22. So, any tips that others have found to helpful?

Thanks,

Chris
